Chancellor, Board of Governors Chair scheduled to speak

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Universities in Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education will host Winter commencement ceremonies beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend.

Chancellor Dan Greenstein will speak at Lock Haven University's commencement, and Cindy Shapira, Chair of the State System Board of Governors, is schedule to address graduates at Slippery Rock University.

Details of the programs follow:

 

BLOOMSBURG: More than 500 students – 450 undergraduates and 85 graduate students – will celebrate graduation during three ceremonies in the Haas Center of the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Graduate commencement is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m., while undergraduate commencement will take place in two parts. The College of Education and the College of Liberal Arts will have its commencement on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. and the Ziegler College of Business and the College of Science and Technology will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

 

CALIFORNIA: Master's degrees and doctorates will be distributed at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13 in the university's Convocation Center, while associate and bachelor's degree graduates will celebrate at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Convocation Center. Featured speaker for both will be Col. Lance Oskey, Class of 1993, who currently serves as Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Cadet Command, at Fort Knox, Ky.

 

CLARION: Two ceremonies will be held Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center. At 10 a.m., the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health Sciences and Human Services will host and at 2 p.m. it will be the College of Business Administration and Information Sciences and the School of Education.

 

EAST STROUDSBURG: Koehler Fieldhouse will host commencement at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14. The keynote will be delivered by Dan DiZio, CEO and cofounder of Philly Pretzel Factory.

 

EDINBORO: Two commencement ceremonies will be held at Edinboro University on Saturday, Dec. 14. Undergraduate commencement will take place at 10 a.m. in McComb Fieldhouse, and graduate ceremonies will be held at 2 p.m. in Cole Auditorium. More than 450 students – 257 undergraduates and 195 graduates – have earned degrees.

 

INDIANA: IUP will host two commencement events on Saturday, Dec. 14. The undergraduate ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Master's and doctoral commencement will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center of Fisher Auditorium.

 

KUTZTOWN: Nearly 550 students will receive their degrees at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in the O'Pake Fieldhouse.

 

LOCK HAVEN: Chancellor Greenstein is scheduled to deliver the keynote address during commencement at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in Price Performance Center Auditorium.

 

MANSFIELD: Mansfield's commencement will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Decker Gymnasium.

 

MILLERSVILLE: Undergraduate commencement is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15 in Pucillo Gymnasium, with The High Companies Chief Executive Officer Michael Shirk scheduled to be the keynote speaker, and Andrea Shirk, general manager of Rock Lititz, will receive an honorary degree.

 

SHIPPENSBURG: Heather Warner, president of H. Warner Marketing and a 2014 master's degree earner from Shippensburg, is the keynote speaker for graduate student commencement, which will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, in the Luhrs Performing Arts Center. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, undergraduate commencement will take place in the Heiges Field House. Dr. Khalid Mumin, Class of 1995 and superintendent of Reading School District, is the featured speaker.

 

SLIPPERY ROCK: Cynthia Shapira, chair of the State System of Higher Education, will deliver the address during the university's commencement at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, inside Morrow Field House. Slippery Rock will award 426 undergraduate degrees, 100 master's degrees, and three doctoral degrees.

 

WEST CHESTER: The university will hold graduation ceremonies in Hollinger Fieldhouse over three days, beginning at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, with graduate commencement. Saturday, Dec. 14's events begin at 10 a.m. with the College of the Sciences & Mathematics, and Marc Duey, a West Chester adjunct professor and ProMetrics founder, president, and chief executive officer, is the keynote speaker. Saturday's commencement events continue with the College of Education & University College at 1 p.m. and College of Health Sciences at 4 p.m., when three Presidential Medallions will also be awarded. At 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, graduation for the College of Business & Public Management will take place followed at 1 p.m. with the College of Arts & Humanities and the School of Music.

 

Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education oversees 14 four-year public universities educating more than 90,000 students. The State System offers more than 2,300 degrees and certificates in more than 530 academic areas. The State System universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
