1) What is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday activities. The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability just as other civil rights laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy employment opportunities, purchase goods and services, and participate in state and local government programs. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education.
PASSHE is committed to ensuring accessibility across its universities and offices.

Accommodations vary based on individual circumstances and needs. Examples may include accessible technology, communication supports, academic adjustments, workplace modifications, alternative formats, interpreters, captioning services, and other reasonable accommodations.
4) Will my disability-related information be kept confidential?
Yes. Information shared during the interactive process is handled appropriately and shared only with individuals who have a legitimate need to know in order to evaluate, implement, or support accommodations.

Questions regarding accommodations, accessibility concerns, or disability-related resources should first be directed to your university’s ADA Coordinator. Additional Campus accessibility resources are available as well.
