Small town, big dreams

Commonwealth University - Mansfield
You can’t ask for a better place to live than Mansfield, PA. The opportunities to
explore are endless, from the mountains, landmarks, and architecture to the 407-acre
state park. As a busy college student in and out of the classroom, I still have so
much more to see and do, but I’m happy I chose to stay in rural Pennsylvania for my
higher education.
I fondly remember my childhood in Sayre, a charming small town in northeastern Pennsylvania,
less than an hour from Mansfield. Growing up, you could always find me with my nose
buried in a book or lost in the melodies of my favorite instrument. When it came time
to choose a university, Commonwealth University-Mansfield immediately stood out to
me - its cozy small-town vibe, outstanding affordable education, and the chance to
further indulge in my passion for literature and music made it the perfect choice!
I’m genuinely thankful for Mansfield’s low student-to-teacher ratio. This unique opportunity
allows me to build meaningful relationships with my professors and experience personal
growth daily, which I find incredibly valuable. Mansfield’s dedication to student
success perfectly reflects PASSHE’s mission, and I’m optimistic about its positive
impact on my academic journey.
I have been driven and motivated to succeed for most of my life. I decided in high
school that I wanted to become a lawyer. I was confident that studying political science
at Mansfield would provide me with the critical skills necessary to prepare for my
career. These include critical reasoning, reading analysis, and writing skills. I
have significantly advanced in each of these areas in just three years.
While in the Student Government Association, I honed invaluable leadership skills
that will undoubtedly shape my future. Interacting with students passionate about
athletics, music, and other university activities enriched my experience and broadened
my perspective. Together, we worked tirelessly to enhance our campus community, hosting
events that united individuals from diverse backgrounds. I’m eager to apply my lessons
to create inclusive and welcoming environments wherever I go.
This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at the Tioga County District Attorney’s
office. I submitted Certificates of Compliance for the DAs, assisted them in preparing
for trial, and extended offers to individuals for traffic violations. This experience
helped me prepare for my future as I worked in the public service section of law,
where I wish to spend my career.
While looking forward to my last year at Mansfield and exploring more of what the
town offers, I have my mind set on making my dreams come true. I plan to attend law
school and earn my Juris Doctorate before pursuing a career as a public defender in
Pennsylvania.
