The Enhanced Sick Leave Payout (ESLP) Program will provide eligible faculty members with the opportunity to receive an increased sick leave payout if they submit a letter of intent to retire on or before April 11, 2025, with an effective date of retirement on or before August 22, 2025.  

 

Eligibility - Several Ways to Participate

Regular full-time and tenured regular part-time faculty members who are employed as of the start of the Spring 2025 semester at their university.  
Faculty members are required to qualify for majority-paid retiree healthcare at the time of retirement by:

  • Meeting the required years of service on or before June 30, 2025, and prior to the effective date of retirement; and
  • Meeting the required age on or before the effective date of retirement 


Faculty members participating in Phased Retirement 
Eligible phased retirement faculty who were scheduled to retire at the end of the 2024/2025 academic year or in the summer prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester (retirement date no later than August 22, 2025) will be eligible to receive the enhanced sick leave payout - no additional action required to participate.  
Eligible faculty on an approved phased retirement arrangement with a retirement date after August 22, 2025 may accelerate their retirement to participate in the enhanced sick leave payout program by submitting a letter to their University President on or before April 11, 2025 of their intention to accelerate their retirement date to occur prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester (retirement date no later than August 22, 2025).

  • Meeting the required age on or before the effective date of retirement 


Faculty members who have submitted a letter of retirement for the end of 2024/2025 Academic Year 
Eligible faculty who already submitted a letter of retirement for the end of the 2024/2025 academic year or in the summer prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester (retirement date no later than August 22, 2025) will be eligible to receive the enhanced sick leave payout – no additional action required to participate.

Faculty members are required to qualify for majority-paid retiree healthcare at the time of retirement by:

  • Meeting the required years of service on or before June 30, 2025, and prior to the effective date of retirement; and
  • Meeting the required age on or before the effective date of retirement 

 

Enhanced Sick Leave Provisions

Eligible faculty members will receive a sick leave payout in accordance with the schedule below:

* A faculty member may not get paid out for more sick days than they have accumulated.

Example: If the eligible faculty member has 20 sick days accumulated, they will be paid 20 days of accumulated sick leave upon retirement.  

Note: Eligible faculty members shall not be paid for partial days of accumulated sick leave.  

 

Procedure

Submit a letter of retirement to the University President on or before April 11, 2025 with a retirement date prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester (no later than August 22, 2025). A retirement letter template has been provided for your convenience.  

Faculty participating in phased retirement who wish to accelerate their retirement date in order to participate in the Enhanced Sick Leave Payout program are required to submit a letter to the University President on or before April 11, 2025 indicating their accelerated date of retirement, which must be prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester (no later than August 22, 2025).  

NOTE: All eligible retirements submitted on or before April 11, 2025 and accepted are irrevocable as of the date that the faculty member has completed the years of service requirement necessary to meet majority-paid retiree healthcare eligibility.
